Rhetorical Analysis- Print Ad

The author of this print advertisement is a local Iowa City/Coralville Hy-Vee.  The purpose of this ad is to draw in customers that will be tailgating before an Iowa football game.  It also is meant to show that Hy-Vee is a supports of the Hawkeyes.  The audience of this advertisement are Iowa Hawkeye football fans, and people who will be going tailgating before the game.  Logos can be seen in this advertisement in the deals that are displayed.  They are on there to have the audience look at the price per unit and realize that it is such a good deal that there is no way they could pass.  The author intends to have the audience be convinced by the facts and use the logic of a good deal to choose to shop at Hy-Vee.  I believe that pathos is the most prominent appeal in this advertisement.  They start off with the grill in the background with meat on the grill and pictures of the meat.  The audience is supposed to see this good looking meat and be emotionally compelled to buy it.  They also feature the Iowa Hawkeye logo to induce emotions into Hawkeye fans.  They want the fans to believe that they are supporting their team by shopping at Hy-Vee.  In big words the ad says, “your tailgate headquarters”.  This is trying to establish ethos.  They want the perception to be that they have everything needed for tailgating and they know how to tailgate.  They use mythos by connecting the Hawkeye logo and the football.  They believe that everyone will think of Hawkeye football and assume tailgating before the game.
